The Dumbest Thing I Heard This Week

This week the winner was so far and away ahead of the field that I called it the winner within 5 minutes of seeing it. On Tuesday, conservative author Eric Metaxas appeared on MSNBC to discuss the HHS decision that schools and hospitals owned by the Catholic Church (though not the Church itself) must provide comprehensive health policies to employees, including coverage for birth control. Metaxas decided to be calm and reasonable explain that this policy was written by Hitler and is the first step to the institution of the Holocaust in America.

Yeah. So, score another point for reductio ad hitlerum. There should be an addendum to Godwin’s Law (“As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1”) to include “as a conservative talking head grows increasingly desperate to denigrate common sense, the probability of comparing Obama to Hitler approaches 1”).
