The Supreme Court issued a number of decisions today. Tune in tomorrow because we will have a podcast entirely dedicated to the Supreme Court with special guest Elie Mystal of abovethelaw.com, so be sure to listen to that if you aren’t already subscribed to the weekly podcast. In the meantime, here are copies of the decisions themselves.
First, the Supreme Court ruled against life sentences for juvenile criminals as a violation of the 8th Amendment’s prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. The decision is here.
Second, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 against the state of Montana over a campaign finance law that many hoped would lead to the Court overturning the disastrous Citizens United decision. This decision can be found here.
Finally, the biggest decision today, at least as it relates to this election, was the Court’s decision striking down 3 of the 4 provisions of Arizona’s harsh immigration law. Here is the full decision.
I’m saving my analysis for the podcast so tune in.
