I hate the misuse of the word “literally.” I admit I do it myself from time to time, but I always feel dirty whenever I do. That’s why I love Archer for using the word “figuratively” accurately. But when I speak of this direct mailer speaking to voters I mean it literally.
SuperPAC American Bridge 21st Century is sending out direct mailers in Missouri that talk.
The brochure is printed with the phrase: “Todd Akin would like a few words with you.” When opened, an audio clip plays in which Akin says: “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways of try to shut that whole thing down.”
Greeting cards have been talking for years now, so it was really only a matter of time before someone introduced the audio clip gaffe to direct mailings. Senator Claire McCaskill is locked in a tight race with Akin, but looks poised to prevail. A McCaskill victory would be a big step in holding the Senate for the Democrats.
